a week for 1 hr.
This is a fun introductory course for those
students who would like to learn some basic conversational sentences,
along with gaining a foundation for the language itself. The
students will learn through games, role playing, signing to songs,
skits, field trips, and DVDs. No previous signing needed to take
this course.
Course Objectives
* Learn some basic conversational & religious sentences
* Improve effective communication through facial expressions, body
movement, gesturing, body shifting/direct address, listing, and
ASL sentence structure
* Develop fingerspelling skills
* Sign songs translated into ASL
(They'll learn approximately 250 signs during the year.)

American Sign Language I (ASL I) Ages 13-adult |

Class meets once
a week for 2 hrs.
This is a fun way to earn your
dual foreign language credit
. Even 7th graders can use this
fun curriculum as high school foreign language credit. This
curriculum is used by most high schools and accredited universities, so
one can earn dual college credit - credit by examination.
No previous signing needed. Learn by classroom instruction,
role-playing, DVDs, games, & field trips.
Course Objectives:
* Learn how to carry everyday conversations with a Deaf person
* Understand basic ASL grammatical rules (facial expressions, body
language, body shifting/direct address, listing, eye gaze, classifiers,
and gesturing)
* Develop 'sign to voice' interpreting skills
* Develop an awareness of Deaf culture values
* Sign songs translated to ASL
(By January, the students will be able to converse 2 hours without
talking. They'll learn approximately
600 signs during the year.)

American Sign Language II (ASL II) Ages 13-adult |

a week for 2 hrs.
Prerequisite: ASL I or
teacher approval.
Most Texas colleges
require 2 yrs. of a foreign language for admission. In this
class, the students will continue developing their receptive and
expressive conversational signing skills, along with learning some basic
interpreting skills. Learn by classroom instruction, role-playing,
DVDs, games & field trips.

* Increase conversational vocabulary
* Learn how to translate English sentences to ASL
* Incorporate more non-manual behaviors, classifiers, and gesturing in
their signing
* Continue their awareness of Deaf culture values
*
Develop 'voice to sign' interpreting skills
* Translate a song into ASL
